We need your help.
FPA has a small professional staff. Our lifeblood is our pool of more than 1100 annual volunteers who work at our host sites and in the Day Center to host and support our guest families. We are always seeking more volunteers to help.
We also welcome student interns from area schools and colleges. If you are interested in an internship see below.
We are a Volunteer Organization
Family Promise is a community response to homelessness. As a result of mobilizing community volunteers and partnering with other organizations, we are able to reduce the overhead costs associated with running a shelter in order to spend funds on direct client costs.
As a volunteer, you can directly help families who are experiencing homelessness through a number of avenues. While the majority of our volunteers are members of our partner congregations, we also have many who are “at large,” who discovered FPA through word-of-mouth, in a class or civic organization, or online. All volunteers must be trained. Training can now be done online (see below for a link). Every volunteer makes a difference in meeting the needs of our guests through making a meals, driving families, or engaging in family activities. We try to make sure you find the frequency, day, and commitment that fits you and/or your group.

Our Shelter Site
In partnership with Habitat for Humanity, we operate our Shelter program through two off-site units in the community. During their 90-day stay, families have their own furnished space as they continue to pursue housing options and are always welcome at our Day Center downtown. Through regular case management and Saturdays at the Day Center, our staff and volunteers assist families in areas of employment, credit repair, childcare, financial planning, and housing applications as needed.
Homelessness is Hard. Volunteering is Easy.

Internships
Family Promise of Athens typically has several interns working in our offices. We have two classifications of Interns - Social Work Interns and General Interns.
Social Work Interns
Social Work Interns work under the supervision of our Service Director and one of our MSW Board members. As an academic internship specific criteria must be met between the requesting college or school and Family Promise of Athens. We generally only accept Master’s level social work interns. Contact our Executive Director for more information.
General Interns
General interns serve in a variety of roles including public relations, marketing, social media, administration, non-profit, and receptionist. If interested contact the Executive Director.
